Keywork

All our keys are made of "German Silver" and then silver plated. Pure sterling silver keywork is available upon request.

Our keywork is block-mounted, which means that the key mechanism is fixed in a block of wood that is part of the body of the flute, so these blocks cannot be added afterwards. This type of keywork is the most in line with the aesthetic values of the gorgeous antique Rudall and Roses that we admire so much...

The other option for keywork is pin-mounted: small metal pins are screwed into the body of the flute and these are used to mount the key. We only do pin-mounted keywork on special request.

All keyed instruments are made to order: you chose how many keys you want and of course which ones. You can also specify if you want keywork to be longer, shorter, differently shaped, etc. We'll also happily cater to any kind of grip you have, for example if you play left handed or with a piper's grip.
