Pratten
Our Pratten style flute has the typical large bore and large holes that are to be found on the original Prattens and it produces the most powerful sound of the three different models. This power is an advantage if you play unplugged with other (louder) instruments or if, for example, you intend to go and play mainly in sessions in noisy pubs. However, this volume has to be paid for: you need more air and a good embouchure to 'fill' the instrument.
The Pratten type flute is available with up to 8 keys: D#, F short, F long, G#,
Bb, C and a pewter-plug C-foot with both the low C an C#. All keywork is block
mounted. Pin mounted keywork can be done on request.
Unkeyed flutes are offered in African Blackwood and Boxwood, keyed instruments are also offered in Blackwood and boxwood and in Cocus for 6 or 8 keyed instruments. Because this wood is so rare (and expensive!) we don't make flutes in Cocus with less than six keys. There is usually a waiting time for keyed instruments, please contact us for more information.
All flutes come with a tuning slide. The headjoint can be half-lined, lined with German silver or lined with sterling silver. Flutes in Cocus always come with sterling silver lining and a screw cap to adjust the headjoint's end cork position. The middle piece of this flute, the body, can be made in either one or two pieces.
